Recipe: Fruit Leather

This was created due to my desperation to use up the extra apples I had that were on the verge of going bad. There's no extra sugar (unless you feel like using some brown sugar for extra apple pie flavor), it's pretty easy to make, stores well & is hubby approved. Enjoy!

Fruit Leather

Ingredients
4 red delicious apples, peeled & cored (I'm sure another apple would work fine, these are just what I had on hand)
1/2 cup of water
1 Tbsp pure honey
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
Lemon juice
Optional: 1 tsp brown sugar

> Preheat oven to 175°F
> Dice apples into 1/2 cm pieces
> Put apes and water into a saucepan. Cover and simmer for 5-10 minutes our until apples bits are soft
> Puree until smooth - no chunks should remain. Add spices and lemon juice to taste
> Simmer for another 5-10 minutes until the mix can be parted with a soon and each side stays separated
> Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, making sure to leave some overhang on each side
> Poor fruit mix onto paper and spread evenly to about 1/4" thick
> Bake until leather is no longer sticky and indentations are not left when touched - this took me about 5.5 hours, it all depends on how thick the fruit is spread

More Photos

Oops! I forgot to post these with the others! oh well, here they are

p.s. I really like fiddling with these pics in different programs, so I'll probably come up with a bunch of different versions

Homemade play dough!!!

Out of my boredom and desperation for homemade gifts for my cousins, I created THIS!!!!!
HOMEMADE PLAY DOUGH! how awesome is THAT?

pardon the horrid quality, I took this pic with my nearly dead iphone. This was a lot of fun to make, not all that messy (the pots were a pain in the butt to clean though...) and fairly simple. I made a green batch as well, but instead of food coloring I just boiled a whack of spinach for about 20 minutes (until I got this weird greenish/yellowy/brown color - which i was concerned about at first) and used that water, it ended up being a soft pastel green color!! weird. I also whipped up a batch of crayons!! ha! take THAT Martha Stewart! lol, just kidding!! (please don't sue me!). I would post pics of the crayons (which are a fun Christmas shape), but my phone is on its last legs...

New edited photo

I've been meaning to put this picture up here for a while, & now here it is! I took it a while ago, but just finally got it edited the way I want it, although I couldn't decide which version I liked best! Lol!
